New · Alpe d'Huez & Les 2 Alpes

A motorcycle in the heart of the mountains

Our BMW F 900 R (full power, A licence) is based from April to October in Auris-en-Oisans, between Alpe d'Huez and Les 2 Alpes — setting off straight from the foot of the 21 hairpins, the Col de Sarenne, the Croix de Fer and the Galibier.

It awaits you at the Auberge de la Forêt, a ★★★ hotel-restaurant at 1,350 m altitude: 9 cosy rooms, mountain cuisine served in a converted sheepfold and a terrace facing the peaks. Ideal to stay overnight and set off at first light, when the passes are still deserted — it is the inn's team who hand you the keys.

FAQ

Good to know before you book

Licence, age & riders
Which licence do I need to hire a motorcycle in Grenoble?

The A2 licence is enough for a large part of the fleet; the most powerful models require the full A licence. On an A2, the bike is restricted to 35 kW (47.5 hp) as required by law. Each motorcycle listing shows the category required and its seat height.

Minimum age and licence seniority?

You must be at least 19 and hold the valid licence matching the motorcycle (A2 or A). No particular licence seniority is required. An online identity check is carried out before the rental.

Can I add a second rider?

Yes, on the motorcycles insured by the Mutuelle des Motards, with the Additional rider option at 15 €/day, capped at 45 € per rental. The second rider must hold the licence matching the bike (A or A2) and show licence and ID at departure. The option is not available on the Suzuki GSX-8S or the BMW M 1000 RR, insured by FMA. Without that declaration, lending the bike to a third party would be at your own responsibility and outside insurance cover.

The motorcycle
Will I get exactly the bike I chose?

You book a model, and in the vast majority of cases that is what you get. The registration of your machine is sent to you with the pick-up details and then appears on the contract. For operational reasons — a breakdown, unscheduled servicing, a late return by the previous renter — we may have to replace it without notice with an equivalent or better model, at the same price. You are told before departure, and if the replacement requires a licence you do not hold or does not suit you, the rental is cancelled and refunded in full.

Which seat height and size should I choose?

Seat height ranges from 810 mm (Triumph Trident 800) to 835 mm (Tiger Sport). It is shown on every spec sheet, along with weight and power. If you're unsure about your build, contact us: we'll guide you to the easiest bike to handle.

What power for which level?

Depending on the model, from the Tiger Sport 660 (ideal to start) to the BMW M 1000 RR — 212 hp (A licence, experienced riders). With the A2 licence, the relevant bikes are restricted to 35 kW (47.5 hp); on a full A licence, they deliver their full power.

Are the motorcycles recent and well maintained?

Yes. Our Triumph and BMW fleet is recent and maintained according to the manufacturers' recommendations; each bike is checked between rentals (fluids, tyres, brakes). You ride a reliable machine, ready to go.

Rates & payment
Is mileage included?

Yes: 200 km included on the first day, then +100 km per additional day. Kilometres beyond that are charged at the bike's stated rate, and unlimited mileage is available as an option from 3 days' rental.

What payment methods? Is there a deposit?

Payment by bank card. Full payment is made online at booking. The security deposit is taken separately by card pre-authorisation (no charge).

Lower rates for several days?

Yes: the daily price drops automatically at the weekend, from 4 days and for a week. Occasional promo codes may also apply at booking.

What if I find it cheaper elsewhere?

We match it. On presentation of a written quote from a professional rental company located within 30 km, for an equivalent category of motorcycle and on identical terms (dates, included mileage, excess, cover), we match our price and add a free extra rental day, with no extra mileage. Claims are made before booking, or within 48 hours of it and no later than departure. Full best price guarantee →.

The deposit
How does the deposit work? Is it charged?

The deposit is a simple card pre-authorisation: the amount is held on your card but nothing is charged. It is released automatically if no damage is found on return.

What limit and which card for the deposit?

A bank card in your name. As the deposit is pre-authorised, you must have the amount available within your card limit at the time of the hold — this is the most common blocker. Remember to temporarily raise your limit from your bank's app. Prepaid and virtual cards are not accepted.

When is the deposit released? What does it cover?

We release the hold as soon as the bike is returned if everything is in order; the actual release then depends on your bank (a few days, up to a week). It covers the excess in the event of damage, theft or loss of the keys — greatly reduced with the capped-liability option.

Insurance & gear
Is insurance included? What's the excess?

Yes, every rental includes insurance (third-party liability + damage) with an excess in the event of an at-fault claim. It ranges from 1,500 € to 3,000 € depending on the bike category. The capped damage liability option stops your share at 600 € on any bike — 15 €/day on A2 bikes, 19 € on A, 30 € on the M 1000 RR, and one excess applies per claim. Our bikes are insured by the Mutuelle des Motards.

Is riding gear provided?

As an option: CE-approved helmet + gloves (15 €/day) or a complete pack: helmet + gloves + jacket (35 €/day), sizes M, L or XL. You can also bring your own gear.

Are a helmet and gloves mandatory?

Yes, wearing an approved helmet and gloves is mandatory (Highway Code). Suitable protective gear (jacket, ankle boots) is strongly recommended — we are not liable for injuries linked to inadequate gear.

Booking & cancellation
Can I collect the motorcycle outside office hours?

Yes, as an option (€15): pick-up and return in self-service, 24/7 thanks to a secure key box. Otherwise, agency pick-up from 9am to 6pm.

Cancellation and changes: how does it work?

You can change your dates subject to availability, free of charge as long as the bike hasn't left. Cancellation is possible up to 7 days before the start. However, the Découverte offer is non-cancellable. Details are set out in our rental terms and conditions.

Can I cancel right up to the day of departure?

Yes, with the Flexible cancellation option, taken at the time of booking: 10 % of the rental amount, €9 minimum. It lets you cancel without giving a reason, right up to your pick-up time, and everything you paid is refunded except the price of the option. Without it, cancellation remains possible up to 7 days before. In every case, changing your dates is free as long as the motorcycle has not left. One caveat: not turning up is not a cancellation — you must tell us before your pick-up time.

Is identity verification mandatory before the rental?

Yes. An online identity verification (Stripe Identity) must be completed before the rental: you receive a secure link after booking. Without a validated verification, the motorcycle cannot be handed over and no refund is possible. Do it as soon as you book.

On the road
Breakdown, puncture or accident: what should I do?

An assistance number is given to you at pick-up. If you have any mechanical doubt, don't ride and call us. In the event of an accident, get to safety, fill in an accident report and notify us immediately.

Where can I ride? Can I go abroad?

You ride freely in France, especially on the great Alpine passes (Galibier, Izoard, Croix de Fer…). You can also ride in Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Benelux, Portugal, Andorra and Monaco. Just let us know before you leave: we hand you the vehicle's green card and adjust the mileage package if needed.

Are the motorcycles tracked? What if I drop the bike?

Yes, every bike is geolocated and fitted with an accelerometer with drop detection. Rider to rider, we play fair: if you drop the bike, tell us as soon as it happens, with photos of the damage. We order the parts as quickly as possible and get the bike back on the road fast.

Pick-up day & deals
What should I bring on pick-up day?

Your valid driving licence (both sides), an ID document and the bank card in your name for the deposit. The online pre-check-in saves time on site.

Returning with a full tank and extending: how does it work?

The bike is provided with a full tank and must be returned with a full tank (otherwise fuel + a service fee are re-charged). You can extend subject to availability: let us know as early as possible and we'll adjust the contract and the deposit.

Referral and Découverte offer?

Referral: 100 km free for both the referred friend and the referrer (get your code on the Referral page). Découverte offer: half-day at 49 €, 100 km included (non-cancellable) — ideal for a first ride.
